EDIT: New News on the iPhone capabilities;

The iPhone can connect to the popular Microsoft Exchange e-mail server software, but only through the IMAP protocol using SSL (secure sockets layer) encryption, an Apple representative confirmed.

This isn’t the same as if Apple had licensed the Microsoft ActiveSync protocol for Exchange, as has been rumored. The iPhone does not support the BlackBerry or Good Mobile Messaging software right now.

So… If you have an iPhone, All Exchange My Mail customers can send and receive email from their iPhone using the IMAP protocol that is already included in every plan.

Selecting A DataCenter

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

NetworkingWhen researching any kind of ASP provider, whether it’s for web hosting, email, VPS, database hosting etc…the datacenter you choose is something you should certainly take into consideration.

All datacenters are ranked from Tier 1 to Tier 4. With Tier 4 being the highest and most secure center. Exchange My Mail houses our infrastructure in a Tier 3 datacenter located on Long Island, NY.

The only real difference between a Tier 3 and a Tier 4 datacenter is the availability of additional external power sources. Because these are not available on Long Island, this issue is addressed by having multiple power back-up systems, including on-site redundant power sources and redundant back-up generators with multiple-day fuel supply on-site. The generators and failover systems are regularly tested to ensure a seamless transition in the event of an emergency.

Other key elements to consider in a datacenter are:

  • -Size
  • -Physical security
  • -Connectivity to outside networks
  • -Cooling and environment controls
  • -Fire Suppression
  • -Support

ExchangeMyMail has done extensive research before choosing its current datacenter including a full tour of the 16,000 square foot facility and several in-depth meetings with high level engineers.

Physical security is addressed by monitoring all entrances with cameras and requiring multi-factor authentication which include biometric scanners.

The datacenter is designed on Cisco multilevel architecture which has data connections coming from five major communication carriers entering the building through separate trenches to avoid any interruptions in communications.

Another factor which might be overlooked by many is the heating and cooling system. Heating and cooling is regulated to maintain a consistent and optimal environment for the servers which are monitored to manage heat and humidity. A waterless fire suppression system is used to minimize the risk in an unlikely event of fire by detecting and suppressing fire within seconds which leaves no residue that might damage equipment or be hazardous to employee’s health.

Our datacenter is staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year and has been in operation for over 10 years.

  • Founded in 1995, some of the largest companies are housed in this datacenter, including Canon, Getty Petroleum, Computer Associates, and The United Way of Long Island. They were named the 97th Fastest Growing Technology Company by INC Magazine and were ranked the 223rd fastest growing technology company nationally, by Deloitte & Touche.
  • IBM Delivery and Business Development Partner, a Microsoft Managed Gold Certified Partner and a Cisco Premier Partner with specialization in Security. They are also an accredited member of the MSPAlliance.
  • In October, 2006, they achieved SAS 70 Type II compliance, assuring customers of our ability to fulfill HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements for their IT infrastructure.

ExchangeMyMail owns all of its own equiptment that is housed in this world class, state of the art datacenter. This includes our EMC SAN, Dell Servers, Cisco Switches and Firewalls. With a 99.99% uptime it has been proven to be a wise choice.

Exchange My Mail now offers ActiveSync FREE!

Exchange My Mail offers ActiveSync FREEWindows Mobile

If you own a windows mobile phone or any type of “smartphone” you can get full wireless synchronization with your email, contacts and calendar.

There are 2 ways to accomplish this task:
1 - Use ActiveSync
2 - Use the Good Mobile Messaging service

Both of there services are offered by Exchange My Mail

Windows Mobile - Active SyncActiveSync is a software application designed by Microsoft that allows you to transmit and synchronize information between your local Outlook client and your mobile device.
As long as you have internet access on your handheld, the device can connect to our Exchange Server and sync all information in your Outlook profile including email, contacts and calendar appointments. You can even add or change a contact or calendar entry and it will wirelessly sync back to your Outlook profile.
This feature is now included FREE with your service to Exchange My Mail

Good Mobile Messaging uses an intermediary server that transmits the data from your handheld device to your desktop. The advantage of this would be best described in the following scenario;
If you transmit 3 pages of data from your handheld to an email address and you lose data coverage after only one page has transmitted, the Good Mobile server knows there should be 3 pages sent and will continue to ask the handheld for all of the data. Without this service only the partial data that was transmitted before the loss of coverage would be delivered.
This is best used for any mission critical email.

Exchange My Mail offers both of these services to all users. ActiveSync is included FREE with all services and Good Mobile Messaging is $19.99 per month with a one time set up fee of $34.99. For more information on all the services Exchange My Mail offers, you can click here

Exchange My Mail, Inc - Launches SoloSync

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

SoloSyncC01a-A06cT03a-Z_mdmExchange My Mail is one of the first in the US to offer this new technology!

If you would like to enjoy the benefits of full wireless synchronization between your Outlook and your Blackberry, there are 3 different scenarios to accomplish this;

1 – Add a BlackBerry Enterprise Server in house
2 – Outsource the mailboxes for some or all users to a Hosted Exchange and Blackberry solution (this is our core business)
3 – Use our new SoloSync service which allows you to keep users on your existing Exchange Server and use our BES. (An industry first!)

Advantages and disadvantages of each scenario:

1 – An in-house Blackberry Server is extremely expensive to implement and requires your staff to monitor, update, back-up and oversee all other tasks and maintenance. Most companies are not looking to add additional responsibilities to their current IT staff, as well as incur the high cost of deploying and maintaining a BES Server.

2 – Hosted Microsoft Exchange is our core business. This is where your company would outsource their Microsoft Exchange and BES service to us. This usually works well in 3 situations;

A – For individuals or small businesses that don’t want to incur the expense of setting up an in-house BES Server or don’t want all the responsibility of upkeep

B – Your company could outsource “some” of the mailboxes to us ONLY for users that require BES. All other users remain on your current Company Exchange Server. This can lead to certain other downsides such as not having access to company contacts, calendars, public folders, distribution lists, etc…

C – If your company wants all users to have Hosted Exchange, you can take advantage of everyone having full functionality and synchronization of Outlook profiles with BES, Good Mobile and Active Sync technologies available. For more information on these options feel free to visit our website at http://www.exchangemymail.com/

3 – With this unique service, SoloSync allows our BES Servers to connect to your in-house Exchange Server. This was never possible before, and Exchange My Mail is one of a very select few in the USA to offer this unique service. This cannot be done in any other circumstance.

   SoloSync solves many problems if you’re a company that wishes to deploy BES Service to some or all of your users, while allowing them to remain on your existing Exchange Server. Your company has nothing to do other than sign up and activate the Blackberries. We take care of everything from there. Licensing, updates, back-ups and all other maintenance are handled by us.
